In the kitchen, Roma tomatoes are particularly suitable for sauces and soups because of their strong taste. Their firm flesh also makes them ideal for salads, as they can be cut into slices without the insides falling out. When buying, you should make sure that the fruits are bright red and firm and have no spots.

A location around 12 degrees cold is ideal for storage, for example a cellar - this type of tomato gets too cold in the refrigerator, and it also loses its great aroma there. Roma tomatoes that are still hanging on the bush can, on the other hand, be stored a little warmer so that they do not come off the panicle too quickly.

Grow Roma tomatoes yourself

To grow a tomato plant yourself in the garden or on the balcony, you should sow the seeds in bowls in the first two weeks of March. In May, the small plant can move to a sufficiently large pot - ideal is humus and nutrient-rich soil with a drainage device. The tomato plants do not like waterlogging, but do a lot of watering and regular fertilization.

The location of the plant should be very sunny and protected from wind and rain, then with luck you can harvest the first fruits from June or July. Make sure, however, that your Roma tomatoes are no longer green, but a bright red.
