Has someone spoiled Avengers Endgame for you?

Marvel is spoiling fans with 10 new movies and TV shows in 2021

This caused a lot of frustration among fans, some of whom had been looking forward to films like “Black Widow” and “The Eternals” for years. And the start of some Marvel series was postponed due to the pandemic. The situation looks all the better in 2021: No less than 4 films and 6 series are to be released this year. They are part of the fourth phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). After so far 23 films and 12 series since 2008, there is now a lot to be said for it.

Superheroes have been an integral part of American pop and youth culture since the 1930s. Since then, dozens of new superhero comics have been published there every year by the major publishers Marvel and DC and reach an audience of millions. Since the 1940s, the characters from the comics have repeatedly appeared on the big screen or in television productions. The global hype about superheroes only really picked up speed around the turn of the millennium. Since then, numerous films and series have been published year after year, which are not only aimed at the classic audience of comics, but also at the mainstream. Numerous video games with Marvel or DC characters have also been produced for PC, consoles and mobile devices in recent years. They range from action titles to strategy games and puzzles. Even the makers of slot games have joined the trend. In online casinos there are also various games with a superhero theme, some of which are even playable for free. All of which further fuel the popularity of the superhero genre. Now Marvel is picking up the pace again with its releases.

The movies

Of the four films that are expected to be released in 2021, only one is a sequel. "Black Widow" with Scarlett Johansson in the lead role is set to premiere in the USA on May 7th. The eponymous superhero is already well known to fans from the Avengers films, but will be seen as the main character on the screen for the first time. On July 9th, “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” will follow, the first MCU film with an Asian character in the lead role. Shang-Chi is already known to fans of the Marvel Comics as a kung fu master, but has not yet appeared in the MCU. “The Eternals”, which is based on the comic series of the same name, will follow in November. The cast of the film includes Angelina Jolie as the warrior Thena and Salma Hayek as the wise leader of the Eternals.

The main characters of the series are Scarlet Witch and Vision, who are already known from the Avengers films. "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier" is a miniseries that is limited to six episodes. The first episode is slated to be available on Disney + on March 19th. The plot ties in with the events of "Avengers - Endgame" and follows the adventures of the Falcon after he has received a cloak and shield from Captain America. Audience favorite Loki from the Thor films, played by Tom Hiddleston, also gets its own series. It should start in May and plays in its own timeline, as Loki has actually been dead since "Avengers - Infinity War". A second season of the series is reportedly already in production.

"What If ...?", An animated series that is supposed to take the viewer on a tour through the entire MCU, will also start in the middle of the year. She explores the question of what would have happened if key moments in the MCU films had been turned out differently. The recently deceased Black Panther actor Chadwick Boseman also has a guest appearance on the series. Towards the end of the year, fans can look forward to the launch of “Ms. Marvel ”.
