Coldplay biography

The band was founded in 1996 by Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland, Will Champion and Guy Berryman under the name "Starfish". They took the name Coldplay from the band of Martins room neighbors, because they wanted to rename themselves.

The band's debut album was released in 2000 under the title "Parachutes" and promptly climbed to the top of the charts in Great Britain. Coldpaly only succeeded in doing this in Germany with their second album, "A Rush Of Blood To The Head", which was also top in Switzerland, reaching number five in the US Billboard charts. The album also received two Grammys in the categories "Best Song" and "Best Alternative Album".

In 2005 the band made an appearance at the Live 8 concert. Coldplay also received an MTV Europe Music Award for the best song that year, thanks to the title "Speed Of Sound".

In 2008 Coldplay released their fourth studio album entitled "Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends", the first single is simply called "Viva la Vida". The album and single were very successful, scooping three Grammys out of seven nominations at the 2009 Grammy Awards.

With the single "Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall" the band gave their fans a foretaste of their fifth studio album "Mylo Xyloto", which was released on October 24th, 2011. Two and a half years later, on May 16, 2014, the album "Ghost Stories" was released.
