Berlin - Next Wednesday, the Bundestag and Bundesrat want to vote on changes to the Infection Protection Act on the same day. Immediately afterwards, the Federal President is supposed to sign the law.

It is about the legal basis of far-reaching measures against the corona pandemic. The Federal Council announced yesterday that the Federal Government had asked for the procedure to be concluded as quickly as possible.

The Union and the SPD want to clarify previous general formulations in the law and specify more precisely which restrictions are possible, such as distance requirements, contact restrictions or the obligation to wear a mask in public spaces. The closure of shops and bans on events are also mentioned.

Judges had doubted that the Infection Protection Act in its current form justified the far-reaching encroachments on fundamental rights in the fight against the pandemic. Yesterday there was a hearing in the Bundestag's health committee, at which the experts disagreed on the amendment. © dpa / aerzteblatt.de
