Josephinum - Ethics, Collections and History of Medicine

An international symposium will take place on November 28 and 29, 2018 in the Josephinum, Medical University of Vienna. Three years after the 2015 amendment to the Austrian Reproductive Medicine Act from 1992, a balance sheet is drawn in order to reflect on and discuss the future of reproductive medicine from a medical, ethical, sociological and philosophical point of view.

The event begins with a lecture by the German bioethicist and philosopher Dieter Birnbacher, Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf, entitled “How far can reproductive medicine take the place of nature? "

Followed by further panels and a panel discussion - all in German - on the second day - in English - the main focus of the contributions will be the international debate.

This international symposium is jointly organized by the following institutions: University Clinic for Gynecology at the Medical University of Vienna, UNESCO Chair for Bioethics, Josephinum - Ethics, Collections and History of Medicine at the Medical University of Vienna, Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Rare and Undiagnosed Diseases, Austrian UNESCO -Commission
