For the most part, wine is made up of water. One liter contains up to 900 grams of it. In addition, there are up to 100 grams of ethyl alcohol, between 20 and 30 grams of glucose and fructose, organic acids, glycerine, iron, calcium, potassium, magnesium and some trace elements. You can do something for your mineral balance with just a glass of wine.

One or two glasses of wine are a dose that should not be exceeded permanently in order to enjoy the health-promoting properties of the wine and not to be confronted with the disadvantages of alcohol consumption.

Phenols as health makers

If one deals with the healing properties of wine, then phenols have a special position.

Phenols are secondary plant substances that occur as acids, resveratrol or catechins. Studies have shown that phenols work against platelet clumping. Whether you can then call it a health-maker is then probably a very subjective decision.

Polyphenols also have an antioxidant effect and prevent the LDL cholesterol in the blood plasma from being oxidized and vascular calcification from occurring.

If the estrogen level is too low in postmenopausal women, there is a risk that the bones will lose stability. There is a threat of osteoporosis. Preferably a glass of wine is served with the meal.

Good thing, because wine stimulates digestion. Even before exams, it cannot be a mistake to have a glass of wine. The vessels expand and the brain is better supplied with oxygen.

The French paradox

It is well known that the French are not loathers of food, they feast hard and do not want to miss their glass of wine.

It seems paradoxical that our neighbors are far less affected by cardiovascular diseases than we Germans. Apparently, the French are not that careful about a healthy lifestyle.

They suffer from diabetes more often and have higher cholesterol levels than we do. Numerous scientific studies have shed light on the French paradox and uncovered some interesting facts.

Vegetables and fruits are by no means exotic, they are served with every meal as a matter of course. The wine should not be missing.
